Online Learning Courses

CSHBC online learning courses cover essential knowledge about regulatory requirements to support registrants and Communication Health Assistants (CHAs). Completion of free CSHBC-authored courses earns credits toward registrants’ Continuing Competency Credits (CCCs) requirements. Completion of UBC IPC on the Run courses and a San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training course also earns CCCs.

CSHBC online learning courses

There are currently four free CSHBC online courses available via the CSHBC Learning Management System (LMS):

Jurisprudence: Mandatory for new registrants, optional for other registrants.
Client Consent: Mandatory for all registrants registered with the College on or after April 1, 2022.
Documentation & Records Management: Optional for all registrants.
Flexible Endoscopy for Speech-Language Pathologists: Optional for RSLPs, and mandatory for any RSLP holding the former Certificate E or F wishing to transition to the new combined Certificate E.

For each course completed, you earn three credits toward your CCC requirements under CCC Category A3. All CCCs must be self-reported in the Registrant Portal.

All new registrants must complete the Jurisprudence and Client Consent modules in order to be eligible to renew their registration for the first time.

How to access the CSHBC Learning Management System

On the login page for the CSHBC LMS, registrants need to enter a username and password.

Your username is your four-digit CSHBC registration number, including any zeros at the front of the number. For example, if your registration number is 50, your username is 0050.

If you are accessing the LMS for the first time, or if you don’t remember a password you already set up, you need to click the “Forgot Password” link on the login page to set up a password. After inputting your four-digit username, a password reset link will be emailed to the primary email address you use to access the CSHBC Registrant Portal.

If you completed a CSHBC online course and it is not showing as completed in your LMS account, please email [email protected] to inform CSHBC of this.

CSHBC course access for Communication Health Assistants

Registrants may request access to the CSHBC LMS for CHAs that they work with by submitting a completed Request for CHA Learning Management System Access (PDF) form to [email protected].

Once a CHA is added to the system, they will receive an email containing their log in information. Following this, they will have access to the courses for one month. Any extension to this access, or a subsequent period of access, must be requested via completion and submission of a new form.

UBC online learning courses

There are also free courses available through UBC’s TBC on the Run portal. To access the courses, you must first create an account and enroll. Each hour (or portion thereof) for courses completed will be counted as 1 CCC (if a course takes 45 minutes to complete it will be counted as 1 CCC). Registrants must report these credits in the CSHBC Registrant Portal.

San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety training courses

The San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Program is developed and offered by San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, Aboriginal Health Program, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).

As part of CSHBC’s commitment to making the health system more culturally safe for First Nations and Aboriginal People, the College’s Quality Assurance & Professional Practice (QAPP) Committee has approved the following BC San’yas course on an equivalent basis to CSHBC-authored courses:

Indigenous Cultural Safety Training – Core ICS Health (3 credits, which registrants must report in the CSHBC Registrant Portal by submitting the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Training, Provincial Health Services Authority certificate for “Core ICS Health”.)

RAUDs, RHIPs, and RSLPs can enroll directly via the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training website, on the registration page for the course.

When completing the registration steps, registrants must ensure they select the course titled Core ICS Health. Other courses offered by San’yas are not approved for CSHBC CCCs.

Payment of the $250 course fee is made to the PHSA Aboriginal Health Program.
