Online Learning

CSHBC online learning courses cover essential knowledge about regulatory requirements to support registrants. Completion of free CSHBC-authored courses earn credits toward the required Continuing Competency Credits (CCCs). Completion of UBC IPC on the Run courses and a San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training course also earns CCCs.

CSHBC-authored Online Learning Courses

There are currently two free CSHBC-authored courses available via the SkilSure Online Courses portal. Registrants can register for the courses in the CSHBC Registrant Portal. Each course earns 3 credits toward your CCC online record under Category A3:

  • Jurisprudence (Mandatory for new registrants, 3 credits, automatically reported)
  • Documentation and Record Management (3 credits, which registrants must report in the Registrant Portal.)

Both registrants and non-registrant communication health assistants (CHAs) may take CSHBC’s online learning courses.

UBC Online Learning Courses

There are also free courses available through UBC’s IPC on the Run portal. To access the courses, you must first create an account. Each hour (or portion thereof) for courses completed will be counted as 1 CCC (if a course takes 45 minutes to complete it will be counted as 1 CCC). Registrants must report these credits in the Registrants Portal.

PHSA-authored San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Courses

The San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Program is developed and offered by San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, Aboriginal Health Program, Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).

As part of CSHBC’s commitment to making the health system more culturally safe for First Nations and Aboriginal People, the College’s Quality Assurance & Professional Practice (QAPP) Committee has approved the following San’yas course on an equivalent basis to CSHBC-authored courses:

  • Indigenous Cultural Competency Training for Health Care Providers – Core ICS Health Training (3 credits, which registrants must report in the CSHBC Registrant Portal by submitting the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Training, Provincial Health Services Authority certificate for “Indigenous Cultural Competency Training for Health Care Providers”.)

For more information about the Core ICS Health Training course, see the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Training website.

RAUDs, RHIPs, and RSLPs can enroll directly via the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training website, on the registration page for the course.

When completing the registration steps, registrants must ensure they select the course titled Core ICS Health, Indigenous Cultural Competency Training for Health Care Providers. Other courses offered by San’yas are not approved for CSHBC CCCs.

Payment of the $250 course fee is made to the PHSA Aboriginal Health Program.
