CSHBC has prepared FAQs on inter-professional collaborative practice, with a focus on RSLPs and providing feeding and swallowing management care to clients.

CSHBC understands that a BC Government directive that all health care workers, volunteers, contractors, and visitors wear medical masks in patient areas of health-care facilities does not, for now, extend to requiring medical masking in private health care clinics.

A registrant who fails to renew registration by the deadline of March 31, 2024, will have their registration cancelled automatically. Once a person’s registration is cancelled, the person becomes a former registrant. There are significant consequences of having your registration cancelled and becoming a former registrant.

Minister of Health Adrian Dix and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry have announced actions to protect communities during the upcoming respiratory illness season. The actions include a requirement that all health care workers, volunteers, contractors, and visitors wear medical masks in patient areas of health-care facilities. There is no indication at this time that the medical masking requirement applies to private sector clinics.

Registrants who change to Non-practising registration are still subject to Quality Assurance & Professional Practice (QAPP) Program requirements specified in the CSHBC Bylaws.

In relation to client care, Registered Speech-Language Pathologists (RSLPs) are not authorized by law to teach, train, or supervise registrants of other regulated health professions on how to practice their own professions, even where they deliver client care that includes managing feeding and swallowing disorders, such as dysphagia.

CSHBC requests that registrants who hold Certified Practice (CP) certificates complete an anonymous survey on provision of CP services. CSHBC requests that registrants complete the survey by June 23, 2023.

Effective April 26, 2023, the modified application process for Certified Practice (CP) certificates is in effect.
